So most of us have heard, kids are heading back to school on the 8th. With that comes the worry of safety for our children. Many people are making the choice to continue to home school their children, while others are sending their kids back to school. No matter the situation when your child is home you want more than ever to make your child’s home environment feel safe, and secure. If they are stepping out into an environment going to school that is something unlike they have ever known that what they are coming home to is their oasis, and they are able to breathe a sigh of relief when they walk in the door. For the children who are staying home, many are going to be missing being a part of what they know is going on outside of their walls. It is more important than ever now that we step it up a notch and make sure our child has a home environment that they can gives them a feeling of security and peace.
So how can you accomplish this feeling for them? Set them up with their own space. Something different from what they have ever had before. Whatever kind of space you are working with in your home, keep your child’s hobbies in mind. Remember, with all the social distancing going on, you want them to feel close to you, and still have their own space. So try to find something that isn't in their bedroom, within arms length of you, yet still their own area.
So depending on the likes and ages of the child, you could set them up with their own reading corner furnished with a reading chair, a side table, and a nice overhanging lamp, a comfy pillow and throw blanket.
Or maybe it could be more of a play area for the younger kids. You could set up an area in the corner of your living room for the teens with their own loveseat, a tv stand for their tv and console, so they can choose the times they want to spend closer to you.
Maybe the older kids will even start inviting you to sit down and watch or sit and play their video games with them.
