When we have a spare room our first thought is to turn it into a guest bedroom, and why not? Depending on how long your typical overnight guest stays is all dependent on how you want to set your spare room up. Are your overnight guests your typical stay over on a Friday night, go home the next day type of guest, or do you have a lot of out of town guests who can stay for up to a week or two at a time. If it is the latter, you want to make sure that your spare room has everything your guests need to feel at home. So where is the best place to start.
Think of who your guests are. Do they like to hang out with you till its bedtime? Or do they prefer to unwind on their own after dinner is done. Do they typically pack light, or do they bring in two or three suitcases with them? Is there one person at a time or do you typically have a couple that will come stay with you like Mom and Dad? These are all important questions to ask yourself, and here’s why. You want to create the perfect space for your guests. If they like to retire back to their room after dinner, then setting up a T.V with a small entertainment stand is a great idea. If you have a larger room throw in an occasional chair, especially if Mom likes to knit or crochet while she is watching T.V.
If your room is much smaller and you can’t fit an occasional chair you may want to opt for a pull-out couch instead that turns into a bed, so your guests can comfortably watch tv before it’s time to crawl into bed, and start counting those sheep. If you have two guests in one room, then ensuring you have an adequate sized bed, like a double or a queen is going to be very important to make sure everyone has their own space. The final thing you need to make sure of for those guests that stay longer is that they have enough space to put away their clothes, and toiletries. Ensuring you have a dresser, and nightstands are going to be very important to your guests comfortability, allowing them to settle in.
