By now the kids have settled into their second week of school and things should be going back to somewhat of a normal routine. Many of us had summers filled with vacations, which is something we all haven’t had in a few years. It can be very hard to wind down from having so much fun and excitement and get back into the grind. When your child gets up in the morning what is their morning routine? Do they eat on the way to school, or do they sit down and have breakfast at the table? If you are trying to get your child back into the routine of getting up early enough to eat breakfast at home before they go to school, you could consider getting a smaller breakfast table for them to eat it. It will make it fun to sit down and have breakfast, and for those who come home for lunch, it might even be an exciting new feature to have them wanting to come home for lunch. Then onto after the after-school part of their day. The first thing our kids typically do is grab a snack and head to their room to play video games or watch tv. Setting up a desk in their room if they don’t already have one will allow them to keep their tv and video games separate from their school area part of their room. This is also a great way to keep them organized and focused on the task at hand of getting their homework done before their after-school fun can begin.
The other thing that we have a tendency not to think about when it comes to our kids and settling into school is their sleep schedule. If they are tossing and turning and not feeling comfortable then they have a tendency to make every excuse to stay awake. If they can sink into their bed and they automatically feel comfortable and relaxed it can make going to help them wind down, so that sleep will that much easier. Not to mention how much more rested they will feel for school the next day. Getting a new mattress for them when school starts can be exactly what they need to accomplish both of those things. Then you can go as far as to get them a new bedframe with storage just to put a huge smile on their face. Who doesn’t like a new bed?! It’s a great way to keep their room organized with all their toys, clothes and other things that need the extra storage space.
